The Townsville Choral Society Committee met on Friday 20 March to talk about the society’s current activities and what our outlook is with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the current government measures, we cannot continue to gather safely to rehearse or perform and there remains uncertainty as to how long these measures will remain in place with the government suggesting measures may continue for six months.
The committee has decided to cease all current activity until it is safe to resume.
What has been cancelled
Activities that are cancelled include:
- Choir rehearsals and performances
- Choir Concert that was to be held at St James’ Cathedral
- ChoralAires rehearsals and performances
- I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change auditions and performances
I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change
Our thanks to the production team of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change for their preparation towards the show which was due to audition in April. The team has already spent many hours working towards their vision of the show and it’s disappointing that they will not see their creative concept reach audiences.

What hasn't been cancelled
The Little Mermaid
We expect to be able to work towards our production of The Little Mermaid for early 2021 at this stage.
Committee Meetings
Our committee will continue to meet to plan for future events and to maintain our buildings and improve our processes for when we are ready to gather once more.
Social connection online
While we need to create physical social distance at this time, we still have ways to connect with each other through our social media pages and member groups for Choir and ChoralAires. We hope to keep in touch with you through these groups and encourage you to share and socialise with us.
